I live in NYC -- not exactly Mojo territory. Nonetheless, I did try to get
out to see him every time around. The first time was the best, I think. Mojo was
still with Skid and they played the Lone Star Roadhouse in Midtown. Among the
usual favorites, including "Stuffing Martha's Muffin," which Mojo delivered
with the front of a TV on his head, they also did "Delta Dawn" and a Zamfir
tune. The highlight of the evening was when Mojo caught someone sleeping (it was
the second set) and put down his guitar during the middle of a tune, walked
off stage, tapped the person on the shoulder and then when he woke up, he mooned
him and ran back up to the mic and said, "If you fall asleep, YOU HAVE TO
LOOK AT MY ASS!" About five minutes later, someone else was caught sleeping, all
the way on top of the place, and Mojo said, "OK, man, I'm gonna do it, but
while I'm gone, I want all of you to sing, 'BOOM, LACKA-LACKA.'" That was truly a
great show, one of the best rock shows of my life. I just wish we could all
get a message to Mojo, letting him know that we all love him and that his music
made a very big difference to a lot of people.
